Stephanie M. Wong, Ph.D. (黄欣慧) is an Assistant Professor of comparative theology in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University. Her teaching and research focus on the religious, philosophical, and political traditions of China -- including Chinese Confucianism, Buddhism, and Catholic Christianity. She undertook this inquiry into Asian religious plurality in graduate studies at Yale Divinity School (MDiv, 2013) and Georgetown University (PhD, 2018). As an intellectual historian, she seeks to honor these traditions' spiritual insights and distinct modes of knowing and practice, while also analyzing the socio-economic and political factors which shape local communities and their inter-religious or inter-institutional relations. As a Catholic theologian, she hopes that better understanding of East Asian traditions can aide the theological reflection of the Chinese Catholic Church in its religiously and ideologically diverse context. Dr. Wong joined the SBCS as an at-large board member in 2023.
